PARTS OF SPEECH FOR GRADE VII

Part of speech is components that arrange sentences. A complete sentence will contain at least noun and verb. However, there are more than those components. They are parts of speech: noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, article, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.

1. Noun (Kata Benda)
A noun names a person, things, place, animal, or idea.
For example: dog, cat, park, table, student, mother, house, school, etc.

2. Pronoun (Kata Ganti)
Pronouns replace the name of a person, things, place, animal, or idea in a sentence.
For example: He, she, it, we, they, it, that, this, him, her, etc.

3. Verb (Kata Kerja)
A verb is a word of group of words that describe action.
For example: walk, run, sing, dance, study, think, write, read, etc.

4. Adjective (Kata Sifat)
Adjective is well known as opinion words. It describe the noun or pronoun.
(note: colors are determined as adjective)
For example: pretty, handsome, tall, long, short, good, bad, red, black, white, etc.

How do we use adjective in describing something?


A long table.


A beautiful gown.

So, adjective usually mentioned before the noun.

5. Article
Article is a part of speech which determines the noun. There are three articles, they are a, an, and the. The word a/an will be used before a singular noun to talk about general thing. The article 'a' will be followed by noun starts with a consonant (huruf mati), such as a bed, a hat, a phone, a book, etc. While the article 'an' will be followed by noun starts with a vowel (huruf vokal), such as an umbrella, an apple, an idea, an eagle, and an orange juice. 

6. Adverb (Kata Keterangan)
An adverb tells us about how often, how, when, and where an occurence. It can describe an adjective, a verb, or an adverb. Adverbs usually end with -ly at the end of the word.
For example: loudly. quickly, slowly, late, soon, always, never, happily, sadly. etc.


7. Preposition (Kata Depan)
A preposition is used before a noun, pronoun, or gerund to show place, time, or direction in a sentence.
For example: in, on, above, under, behind, next to, in front of, at, to, beside, etc.

8. Conjunction (Kata Hubung)
The function of a conjunction is to combine or link words and phrases in a sentence.
For example: and, because, therefore, since, or, yet, until, but, so, etc.


9. Interjection (Kata Seru)
Interjection is words that express strong emotion. It usually followed by exclamation point.
For example: Bravo! Aha! Hooray! Yeay! Oy! Alas, he failed!

A.   ADJECTIVE (Kata sifat)

A word which tells us more about noun description. It means that an adjective describes or modifies noun.

Examples:

Beautiful             Long               Black              Expensive    

Situation              Size                Color              Price

B.   IMPERATIVE (Perintah)

Type of English sentence which expresses about instructions.

Examples:

Open the door! (General Expression)

Please clean the floor! (More Polite)

Jack, clean the floor, please! (More Polite)

Would you clean the floor, please? (The most Polite)

Can you help me lift this table, please?

 

C.   WARNING (Peringatan)

Type of Expression which shows us about notification or prohibition.

Examples:

NO ENTRY

NO SMOKING HERE

KEEP DISTANCE

SMOKING AREA 

KEEP OFF THE GRASS
