SIMPLE PAST TENSE
What is it?
Simple Past Tense
Is
A kind of sentence used to express
something we did or condition/ situation in the past time.

EXAMPLE:
One of the students of grade
VIII C went to Borneo hotel to join the “Free Sex Seminar”.
My father was not at home.
Were they in front of the door
yesterday?

PATTERN:
Positive Sentence:
Subject + Verb 2 + Object/ Complement.
Examples:
Note:
When there is no
Verb on its sentence, please use auxiliary verb!
Auxiliary verb in
Past:

Examples:
I was sick yesterday.
Patrick and his friends were here last week.
The operator was very happy five days ago.

Negative Sentence:
Subject + did not (didn’t) + V 1 + Object/ Complement.
Example:
1.
Mr. Joko did not go
to visit his father in Surabaya two days ago.
2.
Miss Hanna didn’t work
hard to prepare final examination for her students.
3.
Mr. Patrick’s father did not put
his keys on the cupboard.
Examples of the Sentences without Verb.
1. I was not sick yesterday.

weren’t here last week.

Interrogative Sentence:
Did + Subject + Verb 1 + Object/ Complement
Examples:
When the sentences don’t contains verb, the first auxiliary
verb before subject are were or was depend on Its Subject.
