WH QUESTIONS AND THE USE OF THERE IS OR THERE ARE

 HOW TO ASK FOR AND USE THERE IS OR THERE ARE?

Based on the title above,
I just want to remind you that learning English isn't difficult as what many people think.
Today I want to separate learning item into two parts, 
First will be about: WH-QUESTIONS
Second one will be about: THERE IS OR THERE ARE

Okay, Let see one by one to get explanation completely now!
There are six kinds of Question words in WH, so what are they?
1. WHO (SIAPA)
2. WHAT (APA)
3. WHEN (KAPAN)
4. WHERE (Di MANA)
5. WHY (MENGAPA)
6. HOW (BAGAIMANA, BERAPA BANYAK)

How to use them all above?
WHO (SIAPA) 
Who: is a question word which asks for person or people.
Examples:
1. Who writes on this paper? (Siapa yang menulis di buku ini?)
2. Who cooked instant noddle? (Siapa yang memasak Mie Instant?)
3. Who has this car? (Siapa yang memiliki mobil ini?)

WHAT (SIAPA)
What: is a question word which asks for things
Examples: 
1. What is the meaning of understand in Indonesia? (Apa arti dari understand dalam Bahasa Indonesia?)
2. What is your name? (Siapa nama kamu?)
3. What do you call this food in your native language? (Apa sebutan makanan ini dalam bahasa asli kamu?)

WHEN (Kapan)
When: is a question word which asks for times, ex: yesterday, last week, last month and others
Examples: 
1. When did you come to my house? (Kapan kamu datang ke rumahku?)
2. When is your birthday? (Kapan hari Ulang Tahunmu?)
3. When do you start your work? (Kapan kamu mulai pekerjaannya?)

WHERE (Di mana)
Where: is a kind of English Question Word which asks for a place

Examples:
1. Where do you want to go? (Ke mana kamu akan pergi?)
2. Where are you going? (Mau ke mana kamu?)
3. Where is my motorcycle's key? (Di manakah kunci motor saya?)

WHY (Mengapa)
Why : is a question word to ask for reason

Examples:
1. Why do you move to Jakarta? (Mengapa kamu pindah ke Jakarta?)
2. Why don't we finish this work today? (Mengapa kita tidak menyelesaikan pekerjaan ini sekarang/ hari ini?)
3. Why did she go to Pontianak last week? (Mengapa dia pergi ke Pontianak minggu lalu?)

HOW (Bagaimana)
How : is a question word which can be used to ask for : a distance place, period of times, frequency, quantity of things and others.

LET'S SEE STEP BY STEP:
You can look at these examples below about the use of HOW.

Examples:
How far is Pontianak from Ketapang? (459 kilometers) (A distance place)
How long does it take Ketapang to Pontianak? (Eleven hours) (period of times
How often do you go to your office by bike? (Twice a week) (frequency)

To ask for quantity and it consists of uncountable noun or singular noun, please use this question type:
How much water do you need for making two glasses of coffee? 
How much food do you eat every day?
How much water do we need to water the flowers in front of our house?
How much money do you bring now? (Fifty thousands)

To ask for quantity and it consists of countable noun or plural noun, please use this question type:
How many pens do you have in your bag? (Five pens)
How many books do you buy every month? (Twenty books)
How many friends do you have at your school? (Many friends)
How many cars do you have now? (Three sporty cars)
How many brothers and sisters do you have? (Four brothers and a sister)
How many box do you need to pack all these clothes? (Four boxes)

THE USE OF THERE IS AND THERE ARE
When do we use There is and when do we use there are?











We use There is when the thing or object is the only singular or uncountable noun
Examples:
1. There is much water on the table. 
2. There is a pen on the table.
3. There is a person in front of my house now.
4. There is a dangerous dog behind your house garage.
5. There is a luxurious car parked in front of my front door.

We use There are when the things or objects are more than one, and it means all of these things are countable noun.
Examples:
1. There are many cars parked at football field around of my school.
2. There are many people behind my uncle's house.
3. There are still ten pens in my pencil case now.
4. There are various vegetables can be bought here.
5. There are five workers promoted as managers at my woodworking furniture company.
