Today we will learn about News Item, I believe that many of you have known about News Item. Let’s see together now, according to its name, News is (Berita) and Item is (Item/ Bentuk) so News Item is a type of important information we can get daily from Newspaper, Internet or Television.

In this part, I just want to share you about what is News Item completely attached with Generic Structures, Purpose of News Item, Language Features, and Example of News Item.

Definition of News Item

News item text is a text which informs readers about events of the day. The events are considered newsworthy or important.

It means if there is an important event that should be known by many people, then this event deserves news. Well, the news text is called the news item text. However, if there are events that people do not deserve, then they are not definitely worth to be news.

Generic Structure of News Item

# Main Events / Newsworthy event(s): it recounts the event in summary form.
# Elaboration / Background event(s): they elaborate what happened, to whom, in what circumstance
# Resource of Information (Source) : it contains comments by participants in, witnesses to and authorities expert on the event

Purpose of News Item

News Item Text is used to inform readers about events of the day which are considered newsworthy or important.
Or
– To inform the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day
– To present information the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day

Language Feature of News Item

– Focusing on circumstances (using a simple language in writing the text)
– Using saying verbs: “….”, She said, informed, told, reported.
– Sometimes at the beginning of news, the scene is mentioned : Jakarta – … .. / Kuala Lumpur – …
– Using Past tense in explaining news events. But if it is a fact that until now still happen or still in the form of fact, then can use simple present tense.
– Short, telegraphic information about story captured in headline
– Using adverbs: time, place and manner.
– Uses of material processes to retell the event

1.      Town Contaminated

      Moscow – A Russian journalist has uncovered evidence of another Soviet nuclear catastrophe, which killed 10 sailors and contaminated an entire town.
Yelena Vazrshavskya is the first journalist to speak to people who witnessed the explosion of a nuclear submarine at the naval base of shkotovo – 22 near Vladivostock.
The accident, which occurred 13 months before the Chernobyl disaster, spread radioactive fall-out over the base and nearby town, but was covered  up by officials of the Soviet Union. Residents were told the explosion in the reactor of the Victor-class submarine during a refit had been a ‘thermal’ and not a nuclear explosion. And those involved in the clean up operation to remove more than 600 tones of contaminated material were sworn to secrecy.
A board of investigators was later to describe it as the worst accident in the history of the Soviet Navy.

2.      Bank Robber Interrupts News Broadcast

      ROCHESTER, Minn., Dec. 16 (UPI) — A Minnesota bank robber interrupted a news broadcast about his own crime when he returned to the scene Tuesday.
Video shows KIMT News reporter Adam Sallet reporting on a series of robberies from outside Sterling State bank in Rochester as an employee runs out and points to the robber off camera.
“This is live TV folks,” Sallet said before stepping away from the broadcast to call police.
The feed then cut back to the news anchor who assured the audience that the event was not planned.
Sallet tweeted later in the day that the suspect had been caught.

Perampok Bank menyela Siaran Berita

Perampok bank di Minnesota terganggu akan adanya siaran berita tentang kejahatannya sendiri ketika ia kembali ke adegan Selasa.

Video menunjukkan reporter Berita KIMT Adam Sallet melaporkan serangkaian perampokan dari luar Bank Sterling State di Rochester sebagaimana seorang karyawan berlari dan menunjuk ke arah perampok dari kamera.

“Ini adalah siaran live TV,” kata Sallet sebelum melangkah menjauh dari siaran untuk memanggil polisi. kemudian memotong kembali penyiar berita yang meyakinkan penonton bahwa acara itu tidak direncanakan.

Sallet kemudian menulis di akun twitternya bahwa tersangka telah ditangkap.
